Rick Kirner's Story of Recovering and Returning a 2005 "Superintendant of the Year" Ring

Over the Winter, Bob, Brian, Bernie D, and I have been detecting at a ball field at one of the schools in New Fairfield, CT.  It is also the site of a carnival held every July for the last fifty years or so.  Every time we go, we come home with a bunch of clads, ranging from a dollar up to about five bucks each.

Bob and I were detecting at this site March 9th in the afternoon.  I got a strong midtone signal and found this ring about three or four inches down.

After a little research, we determined that it belonged to Dr. Joseph Castagnola.  Joe was the Superintendant of the schools in New Fairfield from 2005 to 2010.  He was named "Superintendant of the Year" in 2005 and given this ring.  After a little more research, we found out that after he retired from New Fairfield in 2010, he went to work for the Brewster school district and has since retired from there.  A friend of a friend had contact info for him in North Carolina, where he had retired to.

A few days after finding the ring, we were able to talk to Joe and tell him about the find.  He remembered exactly where and how he lost it.  He took it off to go into the dunk tank at the carnival, and when he got out of the dunk tank, the ring was gone.   Needless to say, he was very happy to hear his ring was found.  After the club meeting on April 4, 2017, the ring was sent back to Joe.
